Funding & Financial Support for Preschool Families in British Columbia.

Helping Families Access Affordable Early Learning

At Symbiosis KIDS Centre, we understand that preschool and early intervention costs can feel overwhelming for many families. The good news is that families in British Columbia may qualify for different forms of financial assistance and funding support to help reduce preschool expenses for children ages 3–5.

    Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB)

The Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB) is a provincial BC program that helps eligible families reduce monthly are and preschool costs. Funding amounts depend on household income, child’s age, type of licensed care, and number of care hours required. Families with children enrolled in licensed preschool programs may qualify for monthly support toward preschool fees.

    Possible Preschool Funding Support

For licensed preschool programs, eligible families may receive:

up to $225/month toward preschool fees for children ages 3–5 who are not yet school age.

    Families may qualify if they:

    • live in British Columbia,
    • meet income eligibility guidelines,
    • require childcare for approved reasons such as work, self-employment, education, medical reasons, job search, or preschool participation.

Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI)

Many licensed childcare and preschool programs in British Columbia participate in the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI), a government-supported program designed to make quality childcare more affordable for families.

Through CCFRI, participating childcare providers receive funding that allows them to reduce the fees families pay each month. For preschool-aged children, typically ages 3 to kindergarten, eligible programs may offer fee reductions of up to $95 per month, depending on the program structure, age group, and approved funding.

The fee reduction is applied directly to the family's childcare fees, making the monthly cost more manageable. Families generally do not need to submit a separate application to receive the reduction when their child is enrolled in a participating program.

Autism Funding for Children Under Age 6

Families of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in BC may qualify for provincial Autism Funding support. Currently, eligible children under age 6 may receive up to $22,000 per year to support eligible autism-related services and interventions. Funding may be used for Behavioural Consultation, Behavior Intervention, Speech-Language Therapy, Occupational therapy, Counselling, Autism related programs, and any other AFU approved services.

    Important Note
The BC government has announced future changes to the Autism Funding model from March 2027, but the current Autism Funding program remains active and continues accepting applications currently.
